In 2023, there are a number of music streaming services, each with their own mobile app.
As smartphone use and market penetration continues to rise, the use of music streaming services increases.
Generally, most music streaming providers offer a free app and a free version of their service.
This is a means to build a user base. The providers then offer a premium subscription option with additional features and a better experience.
The objective for this project is to design a mobile music app with an emphasis on attracting the users to
convert from free to premium (paid) subscriptions.
PROBLEM
Typical problems seen in the top music apps
Distracting Ads that interfere the listening experience.
Overall poor-designed UX and UI that spoils the mood within the app.
Poor searching experience an sorting options.
SOLUTION
Create a music app that offers premium features while removing distracting and overwhelming advertisements within the well-made UI/UX design.
RESEARCH
Competitor Research
I have analyzed the apps: Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal, and Pandora.
After signing up and trying to convert to the premium users, I compared the main functionalities of the apps.
Compared to the other apps, Apple Music, Tidal and Spotify only have exclusive contents.
But Apple Music does not offer a free option, where Spotify and Tidal could be considered as having the best form of business model that can convert free users into premium users.
Also, looking at the chart created by Statista, we can see that Spotify has significantly more numbers of users compared to other music services.
